Kindergarten Staggered Entry Communication Plan

Good Afternoon, Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary School Kindergarten families!  

This is your principal, Mr. Balga, with important information regarding the upcoming school year.

On Monday, August 10th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM CWES will host an Open House for all students to meet their teachers, pick up school supplies, drop off medication with the school nurse, load funds on to cafeteria accounts, join our Parent, Teacher, Community Organization (PTCO), and much more! Kindergarteners will meet and visit all five kindergarten teachers during Open House. Your child will then be assigned a day to attend a full day of school on either August 12th, 13th, or 14th. That will be the only day that your child will attend during that first week of school. Families will receive a call to share their staggered entry date between August 5th – 7th. 

During these staggered entry days, students will work in small groups and experience a fun-filled day of school including a school-wide scavenger hunt, special class with all Encore teachers, and some initial assessments. On Monday, August 17th, no Kindergarten students will attend school to allow a planning day for our Kindergarten teachers. On this day, your child’s classroom teacher will call to share his or her placement for the school year. 

Finally, we will host a Kindergarten Open House on Monday, August 17th from 4:30 – 5:30 PM in which families can meet and learn more about their child’s specific classroom and teacher. All kindergarten students will officially join their new class on Tuesday, August 18th for a regular day of school.  

To help all students start the year with confidence and independence when they come to school, families are kindly asked to say their goodbyes at the school entrance.  We will have staff members available to assist students in finding their new classrooms.
