Weekly Update for the Week of April 20th - April 24th

Hello Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary School Families,
We had a great week last week at Coltrane-Webb! Our Special Olympic athletes did an outstanding job competing in their events at Special Olympics last Thursday and we are so proud of each of them! Our 1st and 4th students also enjoyed some really fun field trips to Reed Gold Mine and JA Biz Town respectively.
Follow this link to the video version of our Weekly Update.
Please take a few moments to review the important updates below:
Permission to Retest on The End of Grade Test (3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Families)
As we approach the End of Grade (EOG) Assessments next month, we are so proud of how hard our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students have been working! The state testing policies have been updated and any students who do not demonstrate proficiency on any EOG Assessment (Level 2 only) will have the opportunity to retake it. We are confident our students will do a great job, but we are excited they have this additional opportunity if they need it. Only their highest score will count whether it is on the original test or the retest.
Additional details were shared by the district last week via a Parent Square message that was sent on Wednesday, April 15th entitled, “Important: Permission to Retest Form (One question)”. Since a parent/guardian "Opt-In" is required for students to retest, we need all of our parents/guardians to take a moment to answer "Yes" or "No" to give permission for each of your children to retest on that Parent Square message. The deadline to complete this form is Thursday, April 30th. If you have any additional questions, please email our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Beth White (heather.white@cabarrus.k12.nc.us).
End of Grade (EOG) Testing Schedule for 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Students
We wanted to let you know the End of Grade testing schedule that will start on May 7th at Coltrane-Webb. Our students have been learning and demonstrating growth all year long. These assessments are simply an opportunity for them to show what they know and highlight their progress. If you have any questions about upcoming assessments, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
May 7th: Reading EOG (Grades 3, 4, & 5)
May 12th: Math EOG (Grades 3, 4, & 5)
May 13th: Science EOG (Grade 5)
Upcoming Dates
May 1st - Field Day: Due to the limited space where we are having the activities, we are unable to invite all our families to attend Field Day. If you are interested in volunteering to help out, please reach out to Mrs. Rinker (Jennifer.Rinker@cabarrus.k12.nc.us).
May 19th - 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony (9:00am - 11:00am): Please make sure you are reading the Parent Square messages from the 5th grade teachers about the big day. As we get closer we will be sharing more information.
CCS Parent/Guardian Engagement Survey
Cabarrus County Schools has launched their annual Parent/Guardian Engagement Survey which you can take by clicking on this link. This is a great opportunity for families to help us better understand what’s working well and where we can continue to grow. The survey takes about 10–15 minutes to complete, and all responses are confidential, with only overall results shared. It will remain open until 11:59 PM on May 1, 2026. Thank you for partnering with us and helping make our school community even stronger.
2025-2026 PTCO Recruitment
The Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary PTCO is looking for new parents and guardians to join us for the 2026–2027 school year, and no prior experience is needed. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a meaningful difference for both our students and teachers while helping shape exciting traditions as we open our brand-new school building this August. Whether you have a little time or a lot, your ideas, voice, and support can help strengthen our classrooms, enrich student experiences, and build a connected school community. We would love for you to be part of this exciting new chapter at Coltrane-Webb! If you are interested, please email CWPTCO@gmail.com.
Positivity Project (P2)
Next week for P2, our students will learn about the character strength "Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence". This means noticing and valuing the world's beauty and people's skills and not taking things for granted. Check out the parent newsletter to learn more.
I hope you have a great Sunday and we will see you tomorrow!
